What is TMJ and How Can Physiotherapy Help?

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a complex structure that connects your jaw to the skull. When this joint is misaligned or stressed, it can lead to a range of symptoms, including pain, stiffness, clicking sounds, and limited jaw movement. TMJ physiotherapy is a specialized form of treatment that focuses on relieving these symptoms, improving jaw function, and enhancing overall quality of life.

Understanding TMJ Dysfunction

TMJ disorder can be caused by a variety of factors, including teeth grinding, stress, misalignment, injury, or muscle tension. It's crucial to understand the root cause of TMJ dysfunction for effective treatment.

The Role of Physiotherapy in TMJ Treatment

Physiotherapy plays a vital role in the management of TMJ dysfunction. Our physiotherapists use a combination of manual therapy, exercises, and education to address the specific needs of each patient.

Jessica came to Physiotherapy by way of Veterinary Sciences. As a Veterinary Nurse (Animal Health Technician), she was inspired by the remarkable outcomes she was seeing in my four-legged patients who received physiotherapy.
